I. DEFINITION OF PROCEDURE TEXT (DEFINISI)

Procedure text are  

(1) Text that explains how to use instruction guide / usage.

example: how to use video, computers, copiers, fax etc..  

(2) The text shows how to perform certain activities.  

example: rules, play games, scientific experiments, road safety rules.  

(3) Text-related behavior among humans  

example: Courant way of life, how to be successful.

II. FIND A TEXT (CONTOH)

HOW TO MAKE A CUP OF COFFEE

MATERIALS  AND INGEDIENTS :

– 2 spoons of sugar

– one spoon of coffee powder

– hot water

– a cup

– a spoon

 STEPS:

1.  Prepare two spoons of sugar, a cup, hot water, one spoon of coffee powder, a spoon.

2. Put one spoon of coffee powder into the cup.

3. Pour some hot water into the cup.

4. Add 2 spoons of sugar into a cup of coffee

5. Stir it well and the hot coffee is ready to drink

3 Methods or Steps (Method / steps) Note: In the procedure text in the form of How-to (“Anyway titled howto”), sometimes the material needed (materials needed) not included

3. Pour some hot water into the cup.

IV.SOCIAL FUNCTION

Social function of procedure text is to tell the reader how to do / ‘These events are usually divided into several steps

V. LANGUAGE FEATURE (KEBAHASAAN)  

• Use of imperatives (cut, don’t mix)

• Use of action Verbs (turn, put, mix)

• Use of connectives (first, then, finally)

• Use of adverbial phrases (for five minutes, 2 centimeters from the top)
