Sesuatu akan terjadi apabila ada syarat (condition) yang dipenuhi.
Conditional sentence adalah suatu kalimat majemuk yang terdiri dari dua klausa.
Main clause atau induk kalimatnya adalah hal yang akan terjadi atau hasil dari suatu condition.
If clause adalah klausa yang diperkenalkan dengan kata if/unless dan menyatakan syarat yang harus dipenuhi.
Ada 4 tipe conditional sentence.
Dalam tugas ini yang diminta adalah third conditional.
Third conditional mempunyai konstruksi sebagai berikut:
past perfect IF past future perfect
S + had + past participle IF S + would/could/should/might + have + past participle
Third conditional digunakan untuk suatu pernyataan yang tidak sesuai dengan kenyataan di masa lampau (past unreal).
Contoh:
If the allies hadn't dropped the atomic bombs, the axis might have won the WW II.
Fact: The allies dropped the atomic bombs and the axis lost WW II.
