EXPLANATION
Simple present tense is a verb tense used to describe the general truth, the habit, the repeated activity and the fixed plan in the future.
The use of adverb of frequency is the easiest way in understanding the simple present form, among others : always, usually, often, everyday, seldom, rarely, daily, never, frequently, occasionally , ever, sometimes, regularly.
Pattern :
1. Verbal Simple Present
- Verbal Sentence, a sentence contains a verb as a predicate.
(+) Subject + Verb(s/es) + Object/C
(-) Subject + do/does +not + Verb 1 + Object/C
(?) Do/does+ Subject + Verb 1 + Object/C?
Example :
(+) The earth revolves around the sun { General truth }
(+) He usually plays football after school { Habit }
(+) She works at the hospital as a pediatrician { Repeated activity }
2. Nominal Simple Present
- Nominal sentence, a sentence contains the copulative verb followed by noun/adjective/adverb.
(+ ) Subject + is/am/are +noun/adjective/adverb
(- ) Subject + is/am/are + not + noun/adjective/adverb
( ? ) Is/am/are+ subject +noun/adjective/adverb?
Example :
(+) He is a surgeon.
(+) Mr. Jokowi is a President of Indonesia
Note :
If we use the singular subject { He, she, it, name of person and singular things }, we must add suffix -s/es in every verb of affirmative sentences.
Meanwhile, we don't need suffix -s/es if the subject is categorized in plural { they, we, I, you and plural things }.
