➡ Sent [Verb/the action]
➡ The letter [Object]
- The word "the letter" is a direct object of the verb "sent" [What did Lisa send?]

The word "the flowers" is a direct object and it refers to the question "What did George buy." Meanwhile, the word "his girl friend" is an indirect object and it refers to the question "For whom did George buy the flowers?"
