EXPLANATION
There are two types of objects; direct object and indirect object.
A. Direct object refers to the question "Who" or What."
Example :
Bella sent the letter
- Bella [Subject/the doer]
- Sent [Verb/the action]
- The letter [Object]
➡ The word "the letter" is a direct object of the verb "sent" [What did Bella send?]
Roni met his uncle in the hospital.
- Roni [Subject/the doer]
- met [Verb/the action]
- His uncle [Object]
- In the hospital [adverb of place]
➡ The word his uncle is a direct object of the verb "met" [Who did Roni meet?]
B. An indirect object refers to the question "to whom?", "for whom?" or "for what?"
An indirect object is the recipient of the direct object. In other words, an indirect object always follows the direct object.
Example ;
George bought his little sister a chocolate.
- George [Subject/the doer]
- Bought [Verb]
- His little sister [Object]
- A chocolate [Object]
➡ As you can see, there are two objects in the sentence. But, both of them have their own role in the sentence. The word "a chocolate" is a direct object and it refers to the question "What did George buy." Meanwhile, the word "his girl little sister" is an indirect object and it refers to the question "To whom did George buy a chocolate?"
